Gluten-Free Gulab Jamun Recipe
A gulab jamun is an Indian sweet or dessert that is served in every special occasion or festival in India. It is completely gluten-free and safe for people with gluten allergy.
Though gulab jamun has saturated fat, high calories, and sugar and no nutritional benefits, eating it on special occasions may not cause significant harm to a healthy diet program. Therefore, gulab jamun is an occasional feast.
Make them at home and adjust the ingredients to try making this delicious sugary dessert fun yet a healthy option. Let’s know its ingredients and recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup skimmed milk powder
- 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- oil for deep frying
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 cups of water
- a pinch of saffron
- 2 crushed cardamom pods
Instructions
- In a nonstick pan, heat ghee (clarified butter).
- Once the ghee melts add milk powder and mix well.
- Add milk and cook the mixture till it gets thicken and form a dough-like consistency.
- It will take 20 minutes. Stir continuously and prepare the dough.
- Once the dough is ready knead it into a smooth dough.
- Beat the dough, again and again, to make it soft, smooth, and not sticky.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, get ready the sugar syrup (chasni).
- Heat sugar and water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
- Add saffron and the cardamom pods and cardamom powder and mix well.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan. Knead the gulab jamun dough for the final time and start making 1.5 cm wide small balls of it.
- Make balls in such a way that they do not have cracks in them.
- Once ready deep fry all the balls in oil until light brown in batches.
- Once fried set all the gulab jamuns into the syrup and let them soak for two hours.
- Gluten-free gulab jamuns are ready. Serve them in a serving bowl and add sliced almonds, pistachios, and cashews on top.
