Baked Dal Vada Recipe

Baked Dal Vada or yellow lentils fritters is a crispy Indian snack perfect for a rainy day. Traditional dal vada is deep-fried oil, but you can bake them in a tandoor, oven, or prepare them in less oil on a Tawa or an air fryer.

Baked Dal Vada Recipe | Yellow Lentils Fritters

Baked vada recipe can be prepared with lentils batter of your choice. Usually, it is made from split green gram, yellow lentils (moong dal), split black gram (urad dal), or split chickpeas (chana dal). You can use any of these lentils. Soaked the lentils for 2-3 hours and grind them to form a batter. This baked version of dal vada is a healthy snack for kids and adults served with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup yellow lentils (moong dal)
  2. 2 small onions, finely chopped
  3. 1 tablespoon rice flour
  4. a pinch of baking soda
  5. 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  6. 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  7. 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  8. 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  9. 1/2 cup cilantro leaves
  10. a pinch of chaat masala
  11. salt to taste
  12. oil to grease

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak yellow lentils (moong dal) in clean water for 3 hours.
  2. Discard the water and add yellow lentils to a grinder with rice flour, baking soda, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  3. Add water if required to form a coarse batter.
  4. Take it our in a bowl and add onions, coriander leaves and mix well. Preheat an oven at 180 degrees celsius and brush oil in a baking tray.
  5. Take small portions of the batter, and form round flatten balls of it using your palm.
  6. Place them on a greased tray and repeat the same for the remaining batter.
  7. You can also cook them in an air fryer or shallow fry them on a Tawa.
  8. Once ready, place them on a serving platter and sprinkle chaat masala on them.
  9. Serve hot immediately with cilantro dip or tomato ketchup.
