Masala Bun Recipe Without Yeast

This masala bun recipe or whole wheat bread rolls are made with wheat flour, yogurt, spices, and onions. Masala bun is a popular south Indian version of bun recipe served in the Iyengar bakery in south India. Masla has become popular across India and it is served in Indian homes as well as food joints and served with hot tea.

 

Masala Bun Recipe Without Yeast

 

Masala Bun Ingredients

  1. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  2. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  3. 2 cups plain yogurt
  4. 1 cup olive oil
  5. 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  6. 2 cup whole wheat flour
  7. 1/2 cup milk
  8. 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

 

Ingredients For Masala

  1. 1 teaspoon olive oil
  2. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  3. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  4. 1 medium thinly chopped onion
  5. 1 finely chopped green chili
  6. 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro leaves
  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt

Masala Bun Recipe

  1. Preheat microwave at 200 degrees Celcius.
  2. Arrange a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a saucepan, and cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Add chopped onions, minced garlic cloves, green chili, salt, and add fennel seeds.
  5. Saute till rawness disappears or until light brown and mix well.
  6. Onion masala for the masala bun is ready.
  7. Whisk baking powder, yogurt, olive oil, salt, and sugar in a large bowl well.
  8. Add whole-wheat flour into the wet mixture in sections and mix well with an electric mixer or a whisker until the dough turns soft and the non-sticky.
  9. Next, add onion masala into the dough and knead it.
  10. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  11. Now take a small part of the bun dough and form a bun size ball of it.
  12. Place it in a baking tray and brush them all with milk and sprinkle sesame seeds.
  13. Bake all buns for 30 minutes until golden brown or till bun rises.
  14. Whole Wheat masala bun without yeast is ready.
  15. Serve with tea, curry, or your favorite sauce.
