Masala Rice Recipe

This masala rice recipe is a spicy and aromatic rice dish loaded with the freshness of herbs, lentils, and dry spices. This simple fragrant aromatic rice recipe is made with chana dal ( split Bengal gram ) and rice.

Masala Rice Recipe is a complete daily meal cooked in Indian homes on regular basis and is served with masala chaas (buttermilk), raita, or sweet kadi.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup split Bengal gram
  2. 1 cup basmati rice
  3. 1-2 tablespoon vangibath powder (according to taste)
  4. 1/2 cumin seeds
  5. 1 cinnamon stick, halved
  6. 4 cloves
  7. 2 cardamom pods
  8. 1-star anise
  9. 1/2 cup mint leaves, chopped
  10. 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  11. 1 bay leaf
  12. 1 onion, finely chopped
  13. 1 tomato, finely chopped
  14. a pinch of turmeric powder
  15. 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  16. 3-4 tablespoon vegetable oil
  17. water as required
  18. 1/2 cup cilantro leaves, chopped
  19. 2 tablespoon spring onions, finely chopped
  20. salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak split Bengal gram or chana dal for 5 hours and boil it in two cups water until soft.
  2. Similarly, wash rice and boil and cook them to 80 percent and keep one side once cooked.
  3. Heat oil in a wok on medium flame.
  4. Add bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, star anise, add cumin seeds, cloves, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste and cook till rawness leaves.
  5. Now, add finely chopped onions and cook for 3 more minutes. Next, add tomatoes, salt and allow them to cook until soft.
  6. Add vangibath powder, turmeric powder, and add boiled split Bengal gram, rice, and mix well.
  7. Mix all the ingredients well and cook for 2 minutes on medium flame.
  8. Mix it well and here our red gram rice is ready to serve.
  9. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it with curd or curry.
  10. Add spring onions, mint leaves, and cilantro leaves and saute for 2 more minutes.
  11. Masala rice is ready, serve it hot with raita, sweet kadi, or buttermilk.
